'My teacher training through Ladywood School Direct was the best decision I have ever made'.
Prior experience
August 2007 - May 2011
Prior to my teacher training, I completed my undergraduate degree in Physical Education and School Sport at Edge Hill University in the hope of becoming a PE teacher.
A part of my degree was a teaching placement at a school for children with special educational needs. This is where my passion working with children with SEND began. After completing my degree, I worked in America at a summer camp and then decided I wanted to become a primary school teacher. Before starting my teacher training, I worked as a Teaching Assistant in a nursery and reception to develop my knowledge and gain more experience working in a school.
Overview of her training Year
Ladywood School Direct
I started my teacher training and enjoyed every minute. I spent time at Edge Hill learning about each subject, gaining new ideas to take into the classroom with me before my placements began. Throughout my training year I completed 3 placements, gaining experience in a mainstream Key Stage 1 and KS2 class as well as a supplementary SEND placement. The progression of teaching throughout each placement was really supportive, whilst giving me a practical experience of teaching. I learnt so much through my training year and grew in confidence in myself and in my teaching, with the support of Ladywood School Direct and my mentors in school. When it came to applying for jobs, Sarah was really helpful and gave us guidance for writing our personal statements and supporting the interview process.
